My husband has always called me a Flat Space Vampire. I'm attracted to flat spaces like a vampire is to blood. I sniff them out and then cover them with things. If you look around my house, you'll notice that all the flat spaces are covered with stuff -- counters, tables, floors, even chairs and windowsills.
When I visit people with uncluttered homes, I always feel out of sorts. Who are these people? Where is their stuff? Do they not have objects they treasure?
I like my things to be out where I can see them. I have an aversion to putting things in drawers or cabinets. If I put them away, I might forget about them.
As you may have suspected, I am a hoarder. I have a problem with "stuff." I love my stuff and don't part with it easily. However, I'm at a point in my life where I need to acknowledge the challenges that my attitude toward things is causing in my life. I am the mother of two young boys -- two very active young boys who need space of their own to run and play. Since I love them even more than I love my stuff, I am taking steps to make our house a better place for them.
This blog will chronicle my journey to declutter my life -- physically of the stuff that is taking over my house and emotionally and mentally of the attitudes and emotions that lead me to want to keep everything.
